Tony’s Blackforest Thunders Special
We are celebrating 50 years in business this year (2019) and so we thought we’d dedicate some new cakes to those who helped make it happen. One of these people was Mr Tony Lonergan who owned and managed Thunders Bakery from the 1980s through to 2008. Having trained in Switzerland Tony brought our most famous Blackforest Gateaux back to the bakery . Our Thunders Special cake is also a creation of Tony’s which is a big hit with many of our customers. Our confectioners take two layers of meringue and place one layer of white sponge between them. They whip fresh cream and pipe it between the layers of sponge and meringue. We also spread a layer of Strawberry filling on the sponge to add sweetness. We comb the sides of the cakes with freshly whipped cream and splash on a drizzle of dark Belgian chocolate.
Tony passed away in 2010, therefore, we thought we’d take these two cakes and make something special in memory of him. We made two changes to the Thunders special to incorporate the Blackforest Flavour. Simply replacing the white sponge with Chocolate sponge and the strawberry filling for Black Cherry made the difference. Our new creation is called Tony’s Blackforest Thunders Special. This is a fresh cream cake, as a result, we recommend that you store it in a fridge and use within 2 days of purchase.
The Standard 7″ size is available from time to time during the year as part of our weekend line menu. Tony’s Blackforest Thunders special is available in round up to 10″ and from 12″ to 18″ in square shape to order only. You can place and order online or instore for collection and online only for delivery to Dublin. We require 2/3 days’ notice depending on the size of your cake and the personalisation needed. Thunders Bakery delivers cake around Dublin city for a standard fee of €10 however there are exceptions to this fee for longer distances.
